AJGA Leadership Links – Meghan Fahey

After a brief hiatus, I am back with a Junior Blog post that is near and dear to my heart.  On December 19th of 2007 my cousin, Michelle Deasey, passed away from a very rare liver disease, just short of her ninth birthday.  I vividly remember sitting in the waiting room at the A.I. duPont Hospital for Children with my younger brother Kevin and my cousin Ryan trying to decide which one of us, as we were all transplant matches, would donate a piece of our livers to help her battle this mysterious illness.  Alas, all our efforts were unsuccessful and Michelle succumbed to the disease surrounded by the numerous family and friends who were so touched by her short life.

You might be wondering what this has to do with the game of golf.  My cousin actually was an accomplished swimmer at Overbrook Golf Club and from what I remember never played a single hole in her life.  But fellow Episcopal Academy classmate and Overbrook Golf Club member, Meghan Fahey, is now using the game of golf as a way to not only remember dear Michelle but to raise money for The Michelle Deasey ’17 Memorial Scholarship Fund.  I believe Meghan speaks for all of us who had the absolute pleasure of knowing Michelle when she says:

“Michelle was a person who could walk into a room and instantaneously light the room up with her smiling face and bubbly, outgoing, and contagious personality. Either on the sports field, in the swimming pool, or in the classroom there was rarely a time you would see Michelle without a smile on her face. Michelle was a person who people aspire to be, at least I know I do and I hope I am half the amazing person she was! She was the best example of living life to the fullest and simply just having fun, how life really should be.”

Through the AJGA Leadership Links program Meghan will attempt to raise $12,000 for the Scholarship Fund.  There are two ways to contribute to Meghan’s efforts:

– You can make a one-time donation.

– Or, you can pledge a specific amount for every birdie or eagle Meghan makes.  She will keep you up to date during the season and then contact you at the end to let you know how much you owe.

I applaud Meghan for all her hard work and to learn more about her wonderful efforts please click on her AJGA Leadership Link Page: https://www.ajga.org/PIF/HomePages/index2.asp?UID=160039#
